Baldo Baldi Straight Grain White Stem #9230 (Sold 8/28/)
Pretty nice, huh?  The straight grain is just as good on the front
of the bowl, but I ran out of room.  These are all large pipes.
There isn't a single pipe here into which I can't fit my thumb.
Thus, you are not only getting magnificent straight grain, you
are getting it on large blocks of wood,  This ain't easy, folks.
Give a lot of credit to Baldo Baldi, the man with the mellifluous
name and great hands.
5 1/2" long, bowl 2 1/2" high: Weight; 2 5/8 oz., 75 grams. New
Price: $1250
Baldo Baldi Straight Grain Fan #9226
If you're enjoying looking at these magnificent pipes, the credit
goes to my oldest and dearest friend, Len Felsenfeld, without
whom this site wouldn't exist.  It would be much less fun working
on this without him, and you can see by the give-away prices
that I'm not doing this for money.
6" long, 2 1/8" high: Weight; 3 1/4 oz., 92 grams. New.
Price: $1250
Baldo Baldi Charatan Straight Grain #9220  (SOLD 3/30/08)
This is not a Charatan, of course, but the shape did remind me
of something Charatan might do, and so I used that term to
distinguish it from the 35 other Baldo Baldi  I brought back from
Europe.  I did not intend or even want to buy this many pipes,
but how could I, as a pipe seller, possibly turn down the
opportunity to purvey pipes of this quality?  I simply couldn't,
even if it means rice for dinner every night.  (That's an inside
joke.  My wife is of Philippine extraction and I have rice for
dinner every night regardless.  Not just rice, though.  Man,
sometimes I get so desperate for just a little bit of potato on the
plate.)  This is the largest of these 4 pipes being offered.  It
does have a little, little scratch on one side of the bowl.  I can
probably steam it out.  I mention this because a) for this money,
you deserve near perfection, and 2) I don't want any you who
are particularly anal, and you know who you are, to get a shock
to your system if you buy this pipe.
6 1/2" long, bowl 2 7/8" high: Weight; 3 3/8 oz., 96 grams. New
Price. $1100
Charatan Coronation #9593
"Made by Hand in the City of London," with gold rim and gold
band (both stamped '680' and a 'CP' on the band.  Magnificent
grain and a little gem for Charatan collectors.  A Lane Ltd. pipe.
5 7/8" long, bowl 2" high: Weight; 2.41 oz., 68.6 grams. New.
Price. $2750
Charatan Coronation #9604
It might be a combination of the wood size and quality that
created the "Coronation" designation on this pipe.  Across the
top the pipe measures 3 1/2".  That's a big pipe.  Again, it was
"Made by Hand in the City of London" by Lane Ltd.  It has a
gold band and a DC stem.
7 1/8" long, bowl 2" high: Weight; 3.65 oz., 103.7 grms. New.
Price. $2750
S. Bang Bulldog Grade 5 #98582  (SOLD 6/10/08)
The grain on this Bulldog isn't quite as good as on the other
Bang pieces presented on this page, but I think this is the best
cut piece of them all, with the Squat Bulldog coming in a 2nd.
5.25" long, bowl 1 7/8" high. Weight: 1 5/8 oz., 48 grams. New.
Price: $650
W.O. Larsen Pearl #12151359 (SOLD 8/28/08)
The name of the wood being used as a stem extension here is
a mystery to me.  New. Price: $950
6.8" long, bowl 2.33" high. Weight: 2.25 oz., 65 grams.
Charatan Achievement #1261997  (SOLD 5/3/08)_
This is a Lane era Charatan and has all the attributes of a true
Achievement.  Although unsmoked, it did pick up some dings
on the bowl...shallow but noticeable.  I hope they'll steam out,
but at this point, I can't promise that.  What I can promise you is
that they're not going to lower the price of this pipe. New.
7.5" long, bowl 2.35" high. Weight: 3 5/8 oz., 101 grams. $3250
Baldo Baldi #1262004  (RESERVED)
5.5" long, bowl 2.25" high. Weight: 2 3/8 oz. New. Price: $1150
Baldo Baldi #1261968
This pipe has to come close to matching the tightest, 360
degree straight grain that I've ever seen.  I'm not a grain
maven, but when it looks like this, it's hard not to notice.  In
addition, it is not that big or bulky.  The draw sucks (or should I
say, it doesn't suck enough?) but that can easily be fixed.
5.7" long, bowl 2.3" high. Weight: 2 3/8 oz., 66 grams.
New.  Price: $1850
Ingo Garbe 372281MG  (SOLD 3/25/08)
While this is definitely within the parameters of the shape styles
Ingo does, this is a bit different, and it's also a little bigger than
his typical pipe.  As noted before, I just wish I could have a bit
more access to Ingo, so I could regularly hand-pick some pipes.
There is a call for them, but they're hard to obtain.  And Ingo is
a true eccentric and won't sell to just anybody, or maybe it just
seems that way.  This pipe is in exc. cond.  Used. Price: $645
6.78" long, bowl 2.6" high. Weight: 2.5 oz., 72 grams
